Accessible website design is the name given to the process when a website is designed with people with disabilities in mind. In accessible design all of the features of a website which are available to 'normal' users are available to the disabled. In an accessible website most of the changes are in the background code and make no difference to the average user. If anything, accessible sites usually score higher in general usability testing. An accessibly designed site will have a better search engine ranking, more visitors and will be more navigable due to 'shallow navigation' and the inclusion of a sitemap.

All government funded websites are required to be accessible to people with disabilities in line with Irish & EU legislation.
